We thought that by delaying a family holiday as late as we could before school went back we could avoid the crowds and get some good settled weather. We were right on one part only, no crowds here.
It has rained for most of the day so we utilised a local indoor option by way of the Owaka Museum to start the exploring off.
The museum was a small but good museum and we met Andrew’s parents, Sister and Niece there so the boys were pretty excited to see everyone.
After the museum we came back to our rented house at Papatowai and had some lunch followed by games and a movie to kill time as outdoor options were not really an option.
After the family headed home we decided we needed to get out and made a plan to visit Cathedral Caves despite the weather. The entrance fee is $5 per adult and $1 per school aged kid. Jackets on and away we went. 1km down through a bush track then 200m along the beach. The caves are only accessible at low tide.
Papatowai beach
Jackets on!
We have no idea what these are….any ideas??
It was good to get out and the caves were very impressive. The boys thought they were great and enjoyed seeing a blue penguin up the back of the caves. The weather didn’t put too much of a dampener on things, the walk back up the hill was more of an inconvenience to the boys than the rain and wind!!
